Tancama Archeological Zone
Tancama archeological zone is located 13 kilometers from Jalpan, this site belongs to the Huasteca Culture and dates from between 200 and 900 A.C.
According with evidences found in the archeological work, this culture had an important development and relationship with other cultures from the occident of Mexico, it could being appreciate through the construction of its temples, houses, the materials found there and its burials.
The site is divided into three places on a slope that simulate the form of the mountain located in the back, the distribution of the structures shows that the place had a ceremonial use.
According with some texts, when chichimecas arrived here, Tancama was empty, so they probably used it for a short time.

Historical museum of sierra gorda
It is located in an old fortress built in 1576; it is one of the oldest buildings of Jalpan. It served as a jail for more than 50 years. Since 1991 it displays the artistic, cultural and historical heritage of Sierra Gorda.
Through its 7 rooms you will know the evolution of Sierra Gorda during the different steps of our History, and admire some elements that give identity to this region.
Its interior gardens are used for cultural activities.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 15:00 and 17:00 to 19:00. Cost: $10.00 (MX)

Cultural building
It was one of the houses of General Rafael Olvera, is located in town, in front of the main garden.
This building was the first public school in Jalpan, later, it was the education government office, nowadays it houses municipal government offices and soon it will be a place for showing and developing the cultural manifestations in town.

Post office
It is located beside the temple and is part of the original building that integrated the Church of Santiago Apostle in Jalpan.
During the war of Reforma, this building was a stable, and for an unknown time, the prison of General Mariano Escobedo, who was made prisoner by General Tomas Mejia.
Some texts show that General Tomas Mejia allowed General Mariano Escobedo leave the place but months late, General Mejia was shot in the city of Queretaro. |
