Tancoyol

Tancoyol is located 58 kilometers from Jalpan, the way is trough an ecosystem of dry tropical forest, once you left the main road you will see the diversity that also Sierra Gorda Biosfere Reserve offers to you, the dry trpical forest desapear in a corner and you can see oak forest and vegetation of semi desert.

The main attraction in town is the Franciscan Mission dedicated to “Nuestra Señora de la Luz” that is located in the main garden, where you can rest and admire the colors and quiet of this place.

If you have enough time, Tancoyol is just the beginning of your trip, from here you can start your trip and visit the old aqueduct that was used for carrying water and built the mission, another near places are River Santa Maria and the place known as “El Crater”.

For getting into contact with history and costumes you could visit the saddler workshop “El Gavilán”, it’s located just 10 minutes from town, another place is the village of Nuevas Flores, it’s a community of Pame origin whose main activity is to create handcrafts made of “Palma”.

River Santa Maria, located 40 minutes from Tancoyol.

Crater Tancoyol, ideal for hiking and wildlife watching.

San Antonio: in this place you can practice the legal hunt of deer, wild turkey and boar.

 























Valle Verde: amazing landscapes

It is located in northeast of the municipality, just in the limits with the state of San Luis Potosí, the trip is interesting because it is one of the most conserved areas and you can watch wildlife and amazing landscapes, it is complemented with the warm of its people, so you will feel like home.

If you are interested in handcrafts, before you get Valle Verde it is located the village of Soledad de Guadalupe, there you can find a ceramic workshop where you can paint or make your own handcraft.

Eco-champ “Ojo de Agua de San Juan de los Duran”
Cave of water, ask for a mountain guide in Valle Verde, it is a trekking of almost 30 minutes.

Eco-Champs San Juan de los Durán

Just 75 kilometers from Jalpan you can visit one of the best conserved areas of Sierra Gorda, here you can find a group of cabins nestled in a conifer and oak forest.

How to get here:
Take the road to Tancoyol and then in the village of Zoyapilca, take the second road to Valle Verde, follow it until the next signal to San Juan de los Duran.

San Antonio Tancoyol

It’s located very close from Santa Maria River, house of important species in Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve that have found in the canyon enough food, so they make this space its habitat.

One of the main attractions here in San Antonio is the service of legal hunting of deer and soon they expect to offer boar and wild turkey.

This region is rich in big cats such as pumas and jaguars, also has an important population of “cicadas” plants that have not evolved since Jurassic period.

La casita ecológica

If you want to experience a retreat in a cabin designed for living in harmony with nature, La Casita Ecologica in the community of Acatitlan del Rio (only 6 km to the south of Jalpan de Serra) is the ideal place. It is surrounded by gardens and mango orchards. From here you can see many birds and butterflies. It is an ideal place for nature walks or bicycle rides. It is located in the heart of the Reserve and it is perfect for visiting the most important tourist sites.

The cabin has the capacity to comfortably sleep 4 people and has a fully equipped kitchen for food preparation.
